كدگذاري، بخشي از فرايند توليد دانش و خلق نظريه در روش گراندد تئوري يا نظريه داده بنياد است. اين نظريه با طرح پرسش يا پرسش‌هاي پژوهشي شروع و با جمع‌آوري داده‌ها از راه مصاحبه عميق و مشاهده تأملي در طول زمان شكل گرفته و با تحليل نظام‌مند و مداوم آن ادامه مي‌يابد و درنهايت به توليد دانش ختم مي‌شود و با ارائه نظريه به ثبات مي‌رسد، اما درآن متوقف نمي‌ماند. يك پروژه پژوهشي مبتني بر اين روش، زماني به موفقيت مي‌رسد كه محصول پژوهش آن، نه فقط پاسخ به پرسش‌هاي اوليه تحقيق، بلكه خود توليدكننده سؤالات جديد باشد تا موضوع تحقيقات بعدي را فراهم نمايد. اين روش، يكي از انواع روش‌هاي پژوهش كيفي است كه هدف اصلي آن بيان فرآيندهاي اجتماعي، تربيتي و پرورش تئوري است. روش مذكور با رويكردي متفاوت، تحقيقي از نوع اكتشافي است و در تحليل داده‌ها با رهيافت تحليل مقايسه‌اي مداوم، در چارچوب سه مرحله كدگذاري باز، كدگذاري محوري، و كدگذاري انتخابي به انجام مي‌رسد. مقاله حاضر با روش كتابخانه‌اي و با هدف معرفي، بيان اهميت، شيوه اجراي پژوهش كيفي بنيادي و به ويژه "كدگذاري" و زمينه‌ها و ضرورت‌هاي آن در كارورزي دانشگاه فرهنگيان، به انجام رسيده و بر آن است تا الگوي مشخصي از مقوله كدگذاري را در فرايند انجام پروژه‌هاي كارورزي ارائه نمايد. نتايج حاصل، حاكي از آن است كه كدگذاري و فرايند اجراي آن در الگوي جاري در كارورزي دانشگاه فرهنگيان شيوه‌اي مؤثر و نتيجه بخش است.
