در اين مقاله يك مساله قديمي مورد بازانديشي قرار گرفته و آن اين كه دين تاريخي چه رابطه اي با توسعه وجود داشته است؟با استفاده از روش هاي تحليل تاريخي به نقش و رابطه دين در امر توسعه پرداخته شده و ضمن نقد ديدگاه هاي حدي، اين نتيجه حاصل شده كه اديان في ذاته واجد توسعه ستيزي يا توسعه گريزي و يا توسعه پذيري نيستند و اين به قرائت ما از دين با توجه به پارادايم هاي حاكم به اين تفسير در هر عصر بستگي دارد.
