مديريت و برنامه‌ريزي ساختار فضايي مناطق در پراكنش بهينه جمعيت انساني بدون توجه به ويژگي‌هاي طبيعي، بالاخص عامل ژئومرفولوژي امكان‌پذير نمي‌باشد. همچنين ترسيم چشم‌اندازها و توسعه آتي بدون لحاظ نمودن پتانسيل‌ها و نقاط ضعف جغرافيايي مناطق داراي اثرات مطلوبي نمي‌باشد. شهرستان خنج با تعداد 89 سكونتگاه شهري و روستايي در قسمت جنوبي استان فارس واقع شده‌است و داراي اقليم گرم وخشك مي‌باشد. پراكنش سكونتگاه‌هاي اين شهرستان تحت تاثير عوامل مختلفي صورت‌گرفته‌است. پژوهش حاضر از نوع توصيفي – تحليلي مي باشد كه براي بررسي معيار عوامل جغرافياي طبيعي و تأثير آن در ساخت و ساز سكونتگاه ها در محدوده مورد مطالعه ابتدا ويژگي هاي جغرافياي طبيعي منطقه از قبيل شيب، زمين شناسي، گسل، خاك، اقليم و هيدرولوژي و ... مورد مطالعه قرار داده شد و عوامل مذكور با استفاده از نرم افزار ARC GIS بصورت رقومي تهيه گرديد. يافته‌هاي پژوهش حاكي از آن است كه استقرار و توسعه سكونتگاه‌هاي شهرستان خنج به طور مستقيمي تحت تاثير ژئومرفولوژي منطقه بويژه عامل توپوگرافي، درصد شيب اراضي، قابليت كشت اراضي و فاصله از رود و گسل صورت گرفته‌است.
