The Effect of Personality Traits on Sexual Function in Women with Type II Diabetes in Zarand, Iran, in 2016

مقدمه و هدف: ديابت نوع دو در حال تبديل شدن به يك بيماري غيرواگير، با همه گيري خاموش و يك مشكل بهداشتي با عواقب جسماني، رواني و اجتماعي است. عملكرد جنسي بيماران ديابتي مي تواند ناشي از عوامل متعددي از جمله ويژگي هاي شخصيتي آنان باشد. از اين رو پژوهش حاضر با هدف بررسي ارتباط بين ويژگي هاي شخصيتي با عملكرد جنسي در زنان ديابتي نوع دو انجام شد.
مواد و روش ها: روش اين پژوهش توصيفي - تحليلي و جامعه ي آماري شامل كليه ي زنان ديابتي مبتلا به ديابت نوع دو شهرستان زرند بود كه از ميان آن ها با استفاده از نمونه گيري در دسترس 85 بيمار انتخاب و با احتساب 20 درصد ريزش احتمالي 102 نفر از بيماران ديابتي به عنوان نمونه ي نهائي انتخاب شدند و به پرسشنامه هاي پنج عاملي شخصيتي نئو و عملكرد جنسي پاسخ دادند. جهت تحليل داده ها از روش هاي آماري توصيفي ، تحليل واريانس (ANOVA) استفاده شد.
يافته ها: نتايج نشان داد كه بين ويژگي هاي شخصيتي و عملكرد جنسي بيماران زن مبتلاء به ديابت نوع دو رابطه اي وجود ندارد. هيچ يك از پنج عامل شخصيتي نئو؛ بي ثباتي هيجاني، برون گرايي، گشودگي، توافق پذيري و وجداني بودن بر عملكرد جنسي تاثيري ندارد.
بحث و نتيجه گيري: يافته هاي اين پژوهش روشن ساخت كه عملكرد جنسي زنان مي تواند ناشي از علل هاي متفاوتي باشد و عملا ويژگي هاي شخصيتي نمي توانند هميشه بر عملكرد جنسي تاثيرگذرا باشند. بنابراين ضروري است ماماها،كارشناسان بهداشت روان، پرستاران علاوه بر شناساندن ويژگي هاي شخصيتي افراد، به عواملي نظير سبك زندگي، تغذيه ي سالم، ورزش و مديريت استرس كه مي تواند بر بيماري ديابت موثر باشد توجه لازم را مبذول دارند.

Introduction: Type II diabetes, a non-communicable disease, is a silent epidemic and health problem
with physical, psychological, and social consequences. Sexual function in diabetic patients can be
affected by several factors including their personality traits. In this study, we aimed to investigate the
relationship between personality traits and sexual function in women with type II diabetes.
Materials and Methods: This descriptive-analytic study was performed on diabetic women with type
II diabetes in Zarand, Iran. Eighty-five patients were selected using convenience sampling and
considering the possible 20% subject attrition, 102 diabetic patients were selected as the final sample.
The participants completed the NEO Five-Factor and sexual function questionnaires. Data analysis was
performed using descriptive statistics and analysis of variance (ANOVA) in SPSS, version19.
Results: We found no significant relationship between the personality traits and sexual function in
females with type II diabetes. None of the NEO Five-Factor personality traits, that is, emotional
instability, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness, was effective in sexual
function.
Conclusions: Sexual function can be affected by various factors, and personality traits cannot always be
influential in this regard. Thus, it is essential for midwives, mental health professionals, and nur ses to
identify the personality traits and other factors affecting diabetic patients such as lifestyle, hea lthy
nutrition, exercise, and stress management.
