The Expansion of Ethics Circle in Peter Singer's Viewpoint

زمينه و هدف: نظريه‌هاي زيست‌شناختي در باب سير تكامل انسان و ساختار فيزيكي و ذهني وي، تأثيرات گسترده‌اي بر حوزه اخلاق داشته‌اند. هدف اين پژوهش، مطالعه و تحليل ديدگاه پيتر سينگر در باب بسط دايره اخلاق از رهگذر بنيان‌هاي زيست‌شناختي و عقلاني اخلاق عام است. مواد و روش‌ها: در اين پژوهش روايتي، نظريه پيتر سينگر در باب بسط دايره اخلاق تحليل و تفسير مي‌گردد. يافته‌ها: سينگر با تأكيد بر اصل بي‌طرفي و برابري و امكان غلبه عقل بر اقتضائات طبيعت زيست‌شناختي معتقد است كه مي‌توان منشأ گرايش‌هاي اخلاقي انسان را طبيعت زيست‌شناختي او دانست، اما در مقام تصميم‌گيري، انسان بايد هنجارهاي اخلاقي عرفي را مورد تأمل قرار دهد. وي محدودنمودن رعايت بي‌طرفي به نوع انسان را عملي دلبخواهانه و فاقد پشتوانه منطقي مي‌داند. معيار ملاحظه بي‌طرفانه از نظر سينگر «قابليت دردكشيدن و تجربه لذت» است و بر اين اساس او دايره اخلاق را تا جايي كه «اغلب» حيوانات و نه همه آن‌ها را شامل شود، گسترش مي‌دهد. نقدهايي نظير عدم توجه به ضعف عقل و تأثيرپذيري آن از ساير گرايش‌هاي انسان در تبيين ناسازگاري بين باورها و اعمال فرد، عدم تفكيك ميان كاركرد معرفت‌شناسانه و منطقي عقل در بسط دگرگرايي، اهميت‌ندادن به ترجيحات و منافع همه موجودات در بسط اخلاق بر نظريه وي وارد است. نتيجه‌گيري: ديدگاه سينگر در بسط دايره اخلاق، ديدگاهي تعديل يافته است. او معتقد است زيست‌شناسي صرفاً موجب تأمل مجدد در شهودهاي اخلاقي مي‌شود، اما نمي‌تواند هنجارهاي اخلاقي ما را تعيين كند. بر اين اساس مي‌توان با عقل و استدلال، اخلاقي عام و بي‌طرفانه و عاري از سوگيري‌هاي زيست‌شناختي ارائه كرد.

Background and aim: Theories of biology about evolution of the human and his physical and mental structure had broad influences on the field of ethics. The purpose of this study is the explanation and analysis of Peter Singer's view on the expanding of ethics circle based on biological and rational foundations of universal ethics. Materials and Methods: In this narrative research, Singer's view on the expanding of ethics circle was analyzed and interperated. Findings: Emphasizing on the principles of impartiality and equality, possibility of overcoming reason on demands of biological nature, singer believes that the origin of our moral attitudes is our biological nature, but in decision makeing, one must contemplate on common moral norms. In Singer's viewpoint, limiting impartiality to human species is an arbitrary action without any rational support; the criterion of this impartial consideration is the "ability of suffering and experiencing of pleasure" and accordingly he expands the circle of ethics in so far as it includes "most" of the animals and not all of them. There is some criticisms to him such as lack of attention to the weakness of reason and human tendencies, lack of separation between the epistemological and logical function of reason in the expanding of altruism, disregarding to preferences of all creatures in expanding the circle of ethics. Conclusion: Singer's view is a moderate one; he believes that biology only caused to reflections on moral intuitions, but it cannot determine our moral norms. Accordingly, we can provide a universal and impartial ethics devoid of biological biases.
