امروزه با ورود آنزيم­ها به عنوان كاتاليزورهاي زيستي به صنعت خمير و كاغذ، شاهد پيشرفت اين صنعت، بهبود كيفيت كاغذهاي توليدي، صرفه­ جويي در منابع سلولزي و افزايش بازدهي محصول هستيم. اين مقاله به تبيين نقش مهم­ترين آنزيم­هاي صنعتي مورد استفاده شامل سلولاز، همي ­سلولاز، اندوگلوكاناز، لاكاز، ليپاز و استراز در صنعت خمير و كاغذ مي­ پردازد. نتايج نشان داده است كه آنزيم­هاي ذكر شده، داراي مزايايي نظير كاهش نياز به مواد شيميايي، بهبود كيفيت رنگ­بري، افزايش استحكام و خواص مقاومتي كاغذ، جوهرزدايي و حذف مواد پليمري چسبناك از خميركاغذ هستند. از اين­ رو سبب بهبود كيفيت كاغذهاي توليدي بدون آسيب زيست محيطي مي­شوند. با توجه به نقش موثرتر آنزيم­ها در صنعت كاغذسازي، نسبت به روشهاي سنتي، لزوم بررسي بيشتر روي آنزيم­هاي صنعتي و كاربرد آن­ها در پروسه توليد خمير و كاغذ به ­منظور پيشرفت هرچه بيشتر صنعت كاغذسازي ضروري به نظر مي­رسد.
