كودهاي زيستي، از جمله جديدترين دستاوردها براي كشاورزي ارگانيك محسوب مي‌شوند. همچنين هديه‌اي از علم نوين كشاورزي هستند كه بايد جايگزين كودهاي مرسوم و سنتي در مزارع كشاورزي شوند. اين كودها به اندازه‌ي كودهاي شيميايي تاثير آني بر رشد ندارند، بنابراين كشاورزان اغلب سعي مي‌كنند براي رشد و نمو محصول زراعي از كودهاي شيميايي استفاده كنند. اما بديهي است كه كودهاي شيميايي دوستدار محيط زيست نيستند و موجب آلودگي آب، هوا و خاك مي‌شوند و مي‌توانند از عوامل ايجاد سرطان باشند. علاوه بر اين، كودهاي شيميايي ممكن است در دراز مدت، باروري و حاصلخيزي خاك را از بين ببرند. كودهاي زيستي حاوي ميكروارگانيسم‌هايي هستند كه عناصر غذايي را جهت حصول اطمينان از رشد و نمو مناسب و تنظيم فيزيولوژي گياهان، به ميزان كافي در اختيار گياهان قرار مي‌دهند. همچنين اين كودها، از اجزاي اساسي كشاورزي ارگانيك هستند و نقش حياتي در حفظ بلند مدت حاصلخيزي و پايداري خاك ايفا مي‌كنند. در اين مقاله ضمن تشريح مفهوم و اثرات كودهاي زيستي و چالش‌ها و راهكارهاي بهبود استفاده از آن‌ها، نتايج تحقيقات مختلف در اين زمينه به صورت جمع‌بندي ارايه و تحليل شده است.

Bio-fertilizers are one of the best modern tools for agric ulture. It is a gift of our modern agricultural science. Biofertilizers are applied in the agricultural field as a replacement to our conventional fertilizers . Should be noted that these fertilizers are not as effective as chemical fertilizers. So, farmers often try to use chemical fertilizers in the field for crop development. But obviously the chemical fertilizers are not environment friendly. They are responsible for water, air and soil pollution and can spread cancer causing agents. Moreover, they may destroy the fertility of the soil in a long run. Scientists have developed Biofertilizers to prevent pollution and to make this world healthy for everybody in a natural way. Bio-fertilizer contains microorganisms which promote the adequate supply of nutrien ts to the host plants and ensure their proper development of growth and regulation in their physiology. Living microorganisms are used in the preparation of bio-fertilizers. Only those microorganisms are used which have specific functions to enhance plant growth and reproduction. There are different types of microorganisms which are used in the bio-fertilizers. Bio-fertilizer being essential components of Organic farming play vital role in maintaining long term soil fertility and sustainability.
