معاينه و كارهاي درماني بر روي پرندگان مثل ساير حيوانات نياز به مقيد سازي دارد. براي پرندگان ميتوان از روش مقيد سازي فيزيكي و شيميايي استفاده كرد. در موارد اعمال جراحي روي آنها، آرام بخشي و بيدردي لازم است. به خاطر تفاوت هاي آناتوميكي و فيزيولوژيكي پستانداران با پرندگان استفاده تكنيك هاي معمول بيهوشي در پستانداران محدوديتهايي در بيهوشي پرندگان دارد. بيهوشي استنشاقي روش انتخابي مي باشد كه داراي مزيت هاي زيادي مثل القا و برگشت از بيهوشي سريع است. بيهوشي تزريقي مزيت هايي دارد كه شامل استفاده آسان در حيات وحش و طبيعت، ارزان بودن و در دسترس بودن تجهيزات، روش آسان تزريق و القاي سريع ميشود. يكي از معايب اين روش بيهوشي حذف دارو از بدن است كه بستگي به متابوليسم و دفع دارو دارد. براي بيهوشي در پرندگان با توجه به گونه، نوع عمل جراحي، مدت زمان لازم براي بيهوشي و آرام بخشي و همچنين امكانات موجود بهترين روش بيهوشي و كم خطرترين انتخاب و استفاده شود.

Restraint is requiring for clinical examination and treatment on birds like others animals. Both physical and chemical restraint can be used in birds. In surgical procedures on birds sedation and analgesia are important. Because mammals have different anatomy and physiology, there are limitations to the use of common anesthesia techniques in avian anesthesia. Inhalation anesthesia is the veterinarian’s method of choice that has many advantages such fast induction of anesthesia and recovery from anesthesia. Ease of use in the field and Wildlife, better speed of induction of anesthesia, the need for minimal equipment and low cost are some advantages for injectable anesthesia. One disadvantage of this method is elimination of drug from body that is dependent on biotransformation and excretion. For avian anesthesia, according to species, type of surgical procedure, duration of anesthesia and sedation and availability of equipment, the best method of anesthesia and least dangerous should be chosen and used.
