آمايش سرزمين نتيجه بازتاب انديشه­ و عملكرد مستمر و با نظم و برنامه گروه­هاي انساني در مقياس­هاي متفاوت (روستايي، شهري، ناحيه­اي و ملي و حتي در برخي مصاديق بين المللي) است تا توزيع هماهنگ انسان­ها و فعاليت­هاي اقتصادي را در رابطه با منابع طبيعي ناحيه تأمين كند. آمايش سرزمين در خدمت انسان براي ارتقاي سطح كيفي زندگي او است. و تفكر آمايشي بيانگر روح فعال و جسم پوياي بشري با درك جغرافيايي است. آمايش سرزمين در هر ملك و سرزميني ممكن است بر پايه اهداف متعددي انجام گيرد، اما انجام موفقيت­آميز آمايش سرزمين هنگامي است كه بر پايه شناخت جغرافيايي فضا صورت گيرد. ضرورت و اهداف ساماندهي نظام استقرار جمعيت و فعاليت (آمايش سرزمين) برحسب بنيادهاي جغرافيايي، از جمله وظايف و اهداف جغرافياي كاربردي است، و در اهداف آمايش سرزمين، ساخت و ساز محيطي و توسعه ناحيه‌اي، جزء وجوه مشترك جغرافياي كاربردي و آمايش سرزمين به شمار آمده كه در راستاي تحقق بهينه اين هدف يا آرمان به تشريح سيستم فضايي- فعاليتي نواحي، توسعه‌ي پايدار و آمايش سرزمين در سطوح ناحيه‌اي قرار گرفته است. آمايش سرزمين امروزه در موضوعات و محورهاي مهم جغرافيايي به مطالعه و بررسي‌هاي ميداني طرح آمايش سرزمين، منطقه بندي كاربري پيشنهادي اراضي و ضوابط و مقررات كاربري اراضي مي‌پردازد. روش تحقيق توصيفي – تحليلي بوده و در اين تحقيق سعي شده با طرح مساله وجوه مشترك جغرافياي كاربردي و آمايش سرزمين و نقش آن در ايجاد تحول سزميني در جنوب ايران و با بهره گيري از آخرين دستاوردهاي علمي در موضوع جغرافياي كاربردي و آمايش سرزمين، به نقش تطبيقي بر برخي نواحي خاص مرزي - ساحلي جنوب ايران پرداخته شود. هدف از اين مقاله نيز بررسي نقش تطبيقي آمايش سرزمين در تبيين رابطه جغرافيا با توسعه مفهومي در ايران بعنوان يك مساله ضروري در جنوب كشور مبناي اصلي پژوهش مي‌باشد.
