پيش از ملاصدرا معقولات به اولي و ثانوي تقسيم مي‌شد. هرچند در سخنان فارابي و ابن‌سينا به تمايز ميان معقولات ثاني منطقي و فلسفي توجه شده بود، ولي اصطلاح «معقول ثاني فلسفي» جعل نشده بود. ملاصدرا علاوه بر جعل اين اصطلاح، اين بحث را توسعه داد و آن را تكامل بخشيد. صدرالدين محمد دشتكي كه از بزرگان مكتب فلسفي شيراز است، نظر منحصربه‌فردي در اين بحث اختيار كرده است. اين نوشتار براي اولين‌بار، به‌صورت تفصيلي ديدگاه ايشان درخصوص معقولات ثانيه را با تكيه بر نسخ خطي حاشيه‌ي قديم وي بر شرح تجريد قوشچي بررسي كرده است. معناشناسي معقولات ثانيه، انقسام معقولات به اشتقاقي و غيراشتقاقي، اتحاد خارجي قسمي از معقولات با موضوعات خود، نحوه‌ي عروض و اتصاف خارجي و ذهني، ازجمله‌ي اين بررسي‌هاست. علاوه بر اين، گزارشي كه ملاصدرا از ديدگاه دشتكي ارائه كرده است، با استناد به سخنان خود دشتكي تأييد شده است. شاخصه‌ي اصلي تفكر ايشان در اين بحث آن است كه مصاديق مفاهيم فلسفي را به مفاهيم مشتق و غيرمشتق تقسيم كرده و قائل به خارجيت معقولاتي اشتقاقي چون موجود و ممكن، به‌نحو اتحاد با موضوعاتشان شده است، درحالي‌كه معقولاتي غيراشتقاقي چون وجود و امكان را اعتباري قلمداد كرده است.

The semantics of secondary intelligible, the devision of derivative and non-derivative intelligibles and the external unio‎n of the intelligibles with its (their) own subjects and external qualification or qualification in mind are included in this review. In addition, Mulla Sadra's report has been documented in terms of Dashtaki's statements.
