Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system provides a better operation and performance in electrical, gas and water wide area networks. Field digital states and analog measurands are gathered by Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) in substation and transferred to SCADA center, as well as operator control commands in reverse path, via communication media. Gathering all substations data, SCADA system displays real-time information in a graphical manner and notifies operators by alarms and events and enables them to send control commands. All events and measurand statistics can be stored in archive for future analysis. The developed software, NRI-SCADA, is designed based on operational architecture in a client/server form. This architecture facilitates reusability, interoperatability, scalability and easy maintenance. Different parts of software, which implemented independently, can interoperate on a Windows NT/2000 LAN based on TCP/IP protocol. Data Acquisition & Control sub-system, embedded on industrial boards powered by real-time Windows CE operating system, provides the inter-connection to RTUs via IEC 60870-5-101, the de facto standard for tele-control protocol. NRI-SCADA^s Kernel, implemented on server computers, does the data and command processing, management of alarms and events, real-time database calculations and connection to relational database (SQL-Server) for static data and archive. User interface consists of three parts: GUI (Graphic User Interface) provides real-time state of process, Alarm/Event Interface enables online notification of alarms and events, and UCI (User Command Interface) can be used for data engineering and system configuration.
