Designing Reliable Distributed Control Systems

By advancement of solid state and computer network technology, using a distributed computer architecture for controlling and monitoring of large and complicated systems was practically and economically possible and distributed control systems were used as Logical, modular and efficient solution in automation industry. Since distributed control systems usually are used for controlling and monitoring of large, complex, sensitive and expensive systems, reliability is one of the most important factors in them. In this paper after presenting some definitions and required introductions, concepts and important factors of reliable systems and methods of computing, reliability and accessibility for a typical distributed control system will be evaluated. Since computing reliability and accessibility of large and complex systems (like power plants) is too complicated and will take a lot of time, use of algorithmic methods will make a procedure of computing. Fault tree analysis will be introduced as a sample. At the end according to what was implied some recommendations and rules for designing and choosing a reliable control systems for power plants will be introduced.
