Performance and Energy Consumption Evaluation Of Power Plant Pumps with Different Flow Control Methods

Induction Motors are the main drive system for pumps and fans in power plant. Throttling valves, by pass valves and etc. are used to control the flow of fluids in pumps and fans. In these applications the input electrical energy consumption of induction motor for different operation conditions (different flows) are almost constant. In this paper the different flow control methods have been simulated and discussed. It is shown that the adjustable speed drive method is a suitable solution for a flow control system of power plants pumps and fans. This method has a minimum loss of energy in the system.
