Assessing damages caused by ice accretion on overhead power transmission lines in different parts of Iran

Ice accretion on conductors and insulators of overhead power transmission lines is one of essential causes of transmission network failures in mountainous and icing regions. Since these failures in addition to damages that bring about for transmission equipments, occasionally lead to power outages, loss assessment can justify that whether employ certain countermeasures for mitigation of this phenomenon in regional power utilities or not. In this paper by considering statistical data, which have been collected from regional power companies, approximate losses have been calculated.
