تمثيل يكي از شيوه هاي ادبي است كه نويسنده به كمك آن پيام مورد نظر خود را محسوس مي كند و بر گستره ي شناخت و درك مخاطب مي افزايد. اين صنعت ادبي با توجه به كاركردهايي كه دارد، در ادبيات داستاني معاصر هم مورد استفاده قرار گرفته است. در اين بين، صادق چوبك در داستان «قفس» با نگاهي تمثيلي، دغدغه هاي سياسي و اجتماعي خود را بازگو كرده و تصويري از جامعه ي تسليم و منفعل زمان خود ترسيم كرده و ساختار حكومت وقت و عدم نقش آفريني و تكاپوي مردم را براي برهم زدن ناهنجاري هاي سياسي و اجتماعي به چالش كشيده است. در مقاله ي حاضر، با روش توصيفي و تكنيك تحليل محتوا، كاركرد تمثيل در داستان مذكور بررسي و تحليل شده است. به نظر مي رسد چوبك در ابعاد مختلفي چون: خلق شخصيت هاي ضعيف و منفعل؛ تبيين مقوله ي جبر اجتماعي و نفي آزادي در جامعه؛ توصيف دقيق جزييات؛ و ترسيم پايان ناخوشايند، رويكردي تمثيلي داشته كه اين ويژگي، اثر او را چندلايه و رمزگونه ساخته است. در مجموع مي توان گفت كه داستان «قفس» واكنش ادبي نويسنده به شرايط نامطلوب سياسي جامعه ي ايران در دهه هاي 20و30 خورشيدي بوده است.

Looks like Choobak in various dimensions, such as creating weak and passive characters; explaining the category of social algebra and the negation of freedom in society; describing the exact details; and drawing an unpleasant end, has an allegorical approach, which has made its effect multi-layered and mysterious. In total, it can be said that the story of "cage" was the author''s literary reaction to the unfavorable political conditions of Iranian society in the years 1320 to 1330.
