در هر دوراني، بزرگان و روشنفكران زمان در صدد يافتن راه ‌حلي تازه براي مسائل و پيچيدگي‌هاي دنياي خود بوده‌اند تا از تنگناهاي موجود زمان رهايي يابند و شعر يكي از ابزارهاي مهم در خدمت اين انديشه است. واقع‌گرايي و حقيقت‌نمايي دو عنصر مهم شعر شاعران دوران معاصر مي‌باشد و مستندسازي به شكل عام، ضبط، تفسير و روايت تجارب شخصي فرد و تبديل و ارجاع آن به جنبه‌هاي مختلف اجتماعي، سياسي، اقتصادي بر بستري از زبان مي‌باشد كه سرشار از ابتكار و تجربه بوده است. رئاليسم مكتبي ادبي است كه در فاصله سال‌هاي 1880-1850 در اروپا و آمريكا رواج يافت. مهم‌ترين ويژگي آثار رئاليستي آن است كه انسان را به عنوان موجودي اجتماعي مطرح مي‌كند و ريشه همه رفتارهاي نيك و بد او را در اجتماع جست‌وجو مي‌كند. مكتب رئاليسم از جمله مكتب‌هايي است كه مانند آينه مشكلات فرد و جامعه را به تصوير مي‌كشد و نويسنده نظرات شخصي خود را در آن دخيل نمي‌كند. اغلب شاعران معاصر هم به عنوان نويسنده رئاليسم به خوبي توانسته‌اند فقر و مشكلات مردم و مبارزه آنان را براي ادامه زندگي در شعر بيان كنند و به تصوير بكشد.

Realism is a literary school that became popular in Europe and the United States between 1880 and 1850. The most important feature of realist works is that it presents man as a social being and seeks the root of all his good and bad behaviors in society. The school of realism is one of the schools that depict the problems of the individual and society like a mirror and the author does not include his personal opinions in it. Most contemporary poets, as writers of realism, have been able to express and depict the poverty and problems of the people and their struggle to continue poetry
