Rhetorical structures of English and Persian Expository Writings in contrast and Their Possible Impact on Teaching English

In this study the rhetorical structures of English and Farsi expository writing were compared and two major differences were found:!) English essays contained clear introdutory and concluding materials. In Farsi essays, however, the "exposition" or the body was notably considered; introduction and conclusion were not explicitly stated. 2) English paragraphs contained topic setences and supporting evidence for the topic sentences in paragraph development. WhileFarsi paragraphs lacked topic sentences and the method of development differed somewhat from the English pattern: The development mostly contained pairs of general statement followed by more specific information.
