Currency Substitution and the Demand for Money:Some Evidence for Iran

This Paper examines currency substitution phenomenon in Iranʹs Economy through estimating domestic and foreign money demand over period 1959-2001, it investigate the hypothesis that domestic money demand is sensitive with respect to foreign variables and forcing currency demand is sensitive to domestic variables, respectively. The results confirm the hypothesis. It implies that demand for money contains currency substitution.
