The Trend of the Growth and the Development of the Metropolitan Cities (Case study of Mashhad City)

Research on the quality of the growth and development of metropolitan cities in the world and the socio-political and their respective ecological problems in developing countries have been investigated by the scholars of social sciences and urban sciences since many decades ago. This paper deals with their respective trend of the growth and development and some of their issues and challenges as well. The present paper aims to explore the forming factors of the Iranian metropolitan cities, evaluate the strategies and the unsustainable development trend of Mashhad metropolitan religious city as the second largest city after Tehran. The research places emphasize on creating a balance between the urban development and environment in an analytical method and by using the Published statistics. The results of the research are presented by evaluating the development of the Iranian metropolitan cities including Mashhad, which is one of the most important challenges of national urban system.
