Security Implications of Hague Tribunal Adjudication on Oil Platforms Case

The Present article is an analytical concerning the defensive - security aspects of the recent verdict issued by International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the oil platforms case put forward by I.R.Iran against U.S during which the Hugue Tribunal, by considering the actions, claims, documents and evidence submitted by both parties, eventually issued its verdict stressing on the illegitimacy of military operations undertaken by US forces against Iranʹs oil platforms, based on logical and lawful reasoning. In the initial part of the present article, first the legal bases of taking actions in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) by Iran was discussed and then the events and procedures resulting in taking the case into the court have been explained. The second part of the article has been devoted to elaborationg and analysing of the most significant achievement and accomplishments of the court in the field of legitimate self-defense and military support of vital interests of states. The basic outcome of the decision made by the court is the determination of and emphasis on the conditions of legitimate defense which, under the present circumstances and international environment, deprives and denies the legitimacy of the current military actions across the world.
