Related factors on renal survival in patients with posterior urethral valve

Background: Posterior urethral valve is one of the important pediatric obstructive lesions,and also a cause for end stage renal disease. Some previous researches which aimed at identifying factors related with renal survival have resulted in controversial findings. Materials and methods: In this research, renal survival and related factors was studied in these patients. 59 patients with posterior urethral valve in two groups with and without end stage renal disease was studied. Results:This research was performed on 59 patients suffering posterior urethral valve.the Mean renal survival was 127.8 months, and the slope of renal failure progression curve was descending. Lower weight, creatinine at admission, serum potassium more than 5 meq/L, BUN more than 35 mg/dl, type of surgery (the least for urethrostomy and most for vesicostomy), and the creatinine at admission were related factors with renal survival, but height, patients age at which diagnosis was made the history of urinary tract infection, age at which the patient under went surgery of surgery were not important on renal survival.
