Firing is one of the most crucial stages of clay roof tile production in terms of quality and makes a vital contribution to the
prod-uct’s mechanical characteristics (bending strength), functional qualities (impermeability, frost resistance) and aesthetics
(flatness, surface texture and colour).
This article looks at the main firing systems currently in use and discusses their strengths and weaknesses in detail. The various
technologies are all supplied by Cosmec, which can advise customers on the most appropriate solution following an indepth
technical and economic feasibility study based on the specific type of material in production.
