The 86th Euroconstruct Conference, held in Paris on 22 and 23 November
last year, confirmed a broadly positive outlook for the period
to 2021. For the first time in many years, in 2017 all 19 Euroconstruct
countries registered an increase in construction output, contributing
to record 4.1% year-on-year growth in volume across the
entire region. The upward trend is expected to continue in 2018
with a 2.8% improvement, followed by a slower average annual
growth rate of 1.6% over the three-year period 2019-2021. Household
confidence is also expected to improve, fuelling growth in the
new residen-tial sector. and from a structural perspective, while
the construction market volume for the entire Euroconstruct region
in 2021 is projected to remain below the 2007 pre-crisis level
(-15%), when the extreme situations of Ireland, Spain and Portugal
are taken out of the equation the sum of the outputs in the other
countries in the region is expected to mark a return to this level.
