چكيده لاتين :
Background: Drug abuse is a non-adaptive pattern of substance use leading to
frequent problems and adverse consequences. Natural substances and synthetic
illicit drugs can be associated with several physical and psychological effects.
The aim of this study is to compare the side effects of natural substances and
synthetic illicit drugs abuse in addicted patients.
Methods: In this descriptive-analytical and cross-sectional study, 55 patients
addicted to natural substances (group 1= opium and hashish) were compared
with 55 people addicted to illicit synthetic drugs (group 2= methamphetamine
and crack). Having recorded the demographic characteristics of the patients,
medical history and clinical examination were taken for all patients, and the
results of clinical and paraclinical evaluations using medical records of patients
were assessed. Collected data were analyzed by using SPSS-21 statistical
software and chi-square and t tests.
Results: The mean age of patients in group 1 was 4115±1412 years and in group
2 it was 2815±715 years. The frequencies of using opium, hashish,
methamphetamine and crack were 353, 153, 383 and 123, respectively.
Regarding the Duration of hospitalization of the patients in both groups there
was no significant difference (P>5155). There was significant differences
between two groups in terms of age (P<515551), marital status (P<515551), and
family history of drug addiction (P= 5154). The mortality rate in group 1 was 83,
and in group 2 it was 263, the difference which was statistically significant (P=
5151). Half of the patients addicted to natural substances had passed away due to
heart disease and half of others due to pulmonary disorders. Also the most
common cause of death among synthetic illicit drug addicts was heart disease
(35183).
