Investigating the Mechanism of Military, Intelligence and Political Measures of the Jordanian Government in Support of Saddam's Regime during the Eight-Year War against Iran (Promotional article)

رژيم بعثي عراق در 31 شهريورماه سال 1359 شمسي (22 سپتامبر 1980 ميلادي) بنابه دلايل متعدد ژئوپوليتيك و ايدئولوژيك هشت سال جنگ ناعادلانه را عليه ايران آغاز كرد. در اين جنگ، بازيگران منطقه­ اي و فرامنطقه ­اي بنابر مقتضيات و شرايط ايجاد‌شده نسبت به اين رويداد واكنش نشان دادند كه در اين بين، نقش پادشاهي اردن به دلايل عيني و ذهني در حمايت از رژيم بعثي صدام بيشتر مشهود بوده است. به‌گونه‌اي كه در جنگ، اقدامات متعددي در راستاي حمايت­هاي سياسي، اطلاعاتي، نظامي و اقتصادي در سطوح منطقه­ اي و بين الملل از صدام حسين كرد و به باور بسياري از تحليل گران سياسي، پادشاهي اردن به‌ عنوان برجسته­ ترين حامي صدام حسين در جهان عرب شناخته شده است. هدف از اين پژوهش، شناخت رفتار پادشاهي اردن درقبال تجاوز رژيم بعثي عراق به ايران، چرايي اتخاذ سياست­ها و اقدامات حياتي نظامي ـ اطلاعاتي از جانب اين نظام و بررسي رفتار اردن در جنگ و نقش ملك حسين (پادشاه اردن) در حمايت از رژيم بعثي عراق است. بر اين اساس، پرسش اصلي اين پژوهش آن است كه سياست و اقدامات نظامي و اطلاعاتي دولت اردن درقبال جنگ رژيم بعثي عراق عليه ايران چه بوده است. به‌دنبال آن، نويسندگان بررسي فرضيه‌اي را مبني‌بر اينكه اردن با اتخاذ اقدامات نظامي ـ سياسي و اطلاعاتي به حمايت از رژيم بعثي عراق در جنگ هشت‌ ساله عليه ايران پرداخته، مد نظر دارند. اين پژوهش به شيوۀ توصيفي ـ تحليلي موردبررسي قرار گرفته و روش گردآوري داده ­هاي مرتبط با پژوهش به‌صورت اسنادي است. نتايج اين پژوهش نشان مي­دهد كه اردن با اتخاذ حياتي­ترين اقدامات نظامي ـ اطلاعاتي، موثرترين نقش را در حفظ رژيم بعثي عراق و توسعۀ آن در جنگ تحميلي عليه ايران داشته است.

The Ba'athist regime of Iraq started an eight-year unjust war against Iran on September 22, 1980 for various geopolitical and ideological reasons. Regional and trans-regional actors reacted to this war based on the situations which occurred. The role of Jordan Kingdom in supporting the Ba'athist regime of Saddam was more evident for objective and subjective reasons. During the war, Jordan Kingdom supported Saddam critically, providing political, intelligence, military and economic support at the regional and international levels. Many political analysts believe that Jordan Kingdom was known as the most prominent supporter of Saddam Hussein in the Arab world. This research is intended to clarify the behavior of the Kingdom of Jordan in relation to the invasion of Iran by the Iraqi Ba'athist regime, and that why it selected serious military-intelligence policies and practices against Iran. Furthermore, Jordan's behavior in the war and specially the role of King Hussein in supporting the regime is being investigated too. Accordingly, the main question of this study enclosed what the political, military and intelligence practices of the Jordanian government in relation to the Ba'athist regime of Iraq’s war against Iran. The authors then proposed their findings on why Jordan took military, political and intelligence measures to support the Ba'athist regime of Iraq in the eight-year war against Iran. This is a descriptive-analytical research the data collection of which is performed by documentary method. The results indicated that Jordan Kingdome played a very effective role in sustaining the Ba'athist regime of Iraq in the imposed war against Iran by resorting to the most essential military, intelligence measures.
