بازتوليد مباني مسيحيت پروتستاني در دوره‌ي استعماري عصر ويكتوريا، با انگاره‌سازي از پيامبر اسلام(ص) (مطالعه‌ي موردي كتاب زندگاني محمد اثر ويليام موير)

Reproduction of the Principles of Protestant Christianity in the Victorian Colonial Period, Imagining the Prophet of Islam (Case Study of the Life of Muhammad by William Muir)

اين پژوهش سعي دارد بازتوليد مباني مسيحيت پروتستاني در دوره‌ي استعماري عصر ويكتوريايي، با انگاره‌سازي از شخصيت پيامبر اسلام(ص) در كتاب زندگاني محمد نگاشته‌ي ويليام موير را بررسي كند. در اين نوشتار، به اين سؤال پاسخ داده مي‌شود كه چرا كتاب موير با آنكه از متون آغازيني است كه در قرن نوزدهم با صورتي نزديك به پژوهش‌هاي آكادميك‌ و روشمند نوين نوشته شده، ولي هنوز ايستارهاي مذهبي مسيحيت پروتستاني را بازتاب مي‌دهد؟ و اصولاً اين بازتاب به چه شكلي قابل شناسايي است؟ موير به‌عنوان يك كارمند دولت استعماري و همچنين يك ميسيونر پروتستان، نمونه‌ي خوبي براي فضاي انديشگاني زمانه‌ي خود به حساب مي‌آيد. او با وجود بهره‌گيري وسيع از منابع اسلامي در پردازش انگاره‌هايي درباره‌ي پيامبر اسلام، هنوز ايستارهاي مذهبي پروتستاني را بازتوليد مي‌كرد. موير با روشِ در قياس قراردادن پيامبر اسلام(ص) با حضرت مسيح(ع)، انگاره‌هايي را بازتاب ‌داد كه اسلام را خشن و ضدتمدن و دروغين جلوه دهد. بررسي متوني از اين دست نشان مي‌دهد كه چرا با وجود تحولات علمي چشمگير در جهان غرب، تا نيمه‌ي قرن بيستم هنوز ايستارهاي مذهبي قوي‌ترين تأثير را در انگاره‌هاي توليدشده از پيامبر داشتند.

This study attempts to reproduce the principles of Protestant Christianity in the Victorian colonial period by imagining the character of the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) in the book “The Life of Muhammad” by William Muir. This article answers the question that as one of the earliest texts written in the nineteenth century in a form close to modern academic and methodological research, why Muir’s book still reflects the religious attitude of Protestant Christianity? an‎d basically, how is this reflection recognizable? As an employee of the colonial government as well as a Protestant missionary, Muir is a good example of the intellectual atmosphere of his time. Despite the extensive use of Islamic sources in the processing of ideas about the Prophet of Islam, he still reproduced Protestant religious traditions. By comparing the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) with Jesus (PBUH), Muir reflected ideas that make Islam harsh, anti-civilized, and false. A study of such texts shows why, despite dramatic scientific developments in the Western world, until the middle of the twentieth century, religious attitude still had the strongest influence on the ideas developed about the Prophet.
