A Critique of the Book “Image and Word: Approaches to Iconology”

مقاله­ ي حاضر، نقدي بر كتاب "تصوير و كلمه: رويكردهايي به شمايل­ شناسي" مي ­باشد. اهميت معرفي و بررسي اين اثر در مطالعه­ ي آراء اروين پانوفسكي پيرامون تصوير، شمايل ­نگاري و شمايل­ شناسي، همچنين ارائه ­ي رويكردهاي مرتبط در اين زمينه از ديدگاه نظريه­ پردازاني مانند آبي واربورگ، هانس بلتينگ، ميكه ­بال و ژرژ ديدي- اوبرمان مي­باشد؛ اين امر، امكان تحليل و مقايسه ­ي رويكرد­هاي مذكور را به موازات و در تقابل با يكديگر فراهم مي نمايد. لذا كاربرد كتاب مورد بررسي، براي كساني است ­كه مي­خواهند با شمايل‌شناسي به عنوان چهارچوب نظري و نوعي روش ­شناسي آشنا شوند. همچنان­كه، براي آگاهي و آشنايي با آراء موافق و مخالف با آن مناسب خواهد بود. در نگاشته­ ي پيش رو، جهت توصيف محتوا و مفاهيم طرح شده در كتاب، به طور جداگانه به هركدام از فصول پرداخته شده است؛ ضمن اينكه در خلال تشريح مطالب، به وجوه شباهت و تمايز ديدگاه­هاي اين نظريه ­پردازان با يكديگر اشاره، همچنين به مقتضاي مضامين مطرح از سوي نويسنده، به ذكر موارد مرتبط مبادرت گرديده است. در نهايت هم رويكردهاي فوق جمع­ بندي، و نقاط قوت و برخي ابهامات در مفاهيم آمده است.

The present article is a critique of the book “Image and Word: Approaches to Iconology”. The importance of introducing and reviewing this work is studying of Erwin Panovsky's views on Image, Iconography and Iconology, as well as the presentation of relevant approaches in this field from the perspective of theorists such as Aby Warburg, Hans Belting, Mieke Bal and Georges Didi-Huberman. This makes it possible to analyze and compare the approaches in parallel and in opposition to each other. Therefore, the usage of this book is for those who want to become familiar with Iconology as a Theoretical Framework and a kind of Methodology. As for knowing and understanding the agreeing and disagreeing views, it will be suitable.In this article, in order to describe the content and concepts embodied in the book, it is separately addressed to each of the chapters; In addition, while describing the material, they refer to the similarities and differences between the views of these theorists, as well as to the subject matter under consideration by the author, mentioning the related items. Finally, the above approaches are summarized and the strengths and some ambiguities in the concepts are mentioned.
