A Critical Review of Islamic Potteries

در ميان هنرهاي دوران اسلامي، سفالگري يكي از متنوع ­ترين و جذاب­ ترين هنرها به شمار مي­ آيد و همواره مورد توجه باستا­ن­شناسان و پژوهشگران هنر اسلامي قرار داشته است. از همين رو كتب تخصصي و كاتولوگ هاي زيادي به زبان ­هاي مختلف پيرامون اين هنر و معرفي انواع و شيوه­ هاي آن به چاپ رسيده است كه بسياري از آن‌ها بر اساس آثار يك مجموعه­ هاي خصوصي يا يك موزه تهيه و تنظيم شده ­اند. نوشتار پيش­رو به بررسي و نقد ترجمه­ ي يكي از اين كتب مي­ پردازد كه در واقع يك جلد از مجموعه ­اي چند جلدي است كه به معرفي آثار هنري اسلامي موجود در مجموعه ناصر خليلي اختصاص يافته است. بررسي دقيقِ ترجمه كتاب كه با عنوان «سفال اسلامي» به چاپ رسيده است نشان مي­دهد كه اين اثر علي­رغم كيفيت ظاهري درخور توجهِ چاپ و رواني نسبي متن در برخي بخش­ها، در زمينه ترجمه و ويرايش داراي كاستي­ ها و ضعف ­هاي جدي است. از جمله مهم‌ترين اين ضعف­ ها مي­ توان به اشكالات جدي و پرتعداد در ضبط اسامي خاص به‌ويژه نام­هاي جغرافيايي و محوطه ­هاي باستاني، ناآشنايي مترجم با اصطلاحات و واژگان تخصصي سفال و هنر اسلامي، اشتباهات و ابهامات در ترجمه و در نهايت توضيحات جهت ­دار و پراشتباه ويراستار اشاره كرد.

Among the arts of the Islamic era, pottery is one of the most diverse and attractive arts which has always been considered by archaeologists and Islamic art researchers. Therefore, many specialized books and catalogs have been published in various languages about this art and its introduction in a variety of ways, many of those publications have been compiled based on the works of a private collection or museum. The present paper seeks to review the translation of one of these books, which is actually a volume of a multi-volume collection dedicated to the introduction of Islamic artworks in Nasser Khalili collection. A careful review of the translation of the mentioned book, which has been published under the title of "Islamic Pottery", indicates that this work, despite its remarkable print quality and the fluency of the text in some parts, has some serious deficiencies and weaknesses in its translation and edition. From among the most significant weaknesses, serious and numerous problems in recording proper nouns, especially the geographical names and the names of ancient sites, the translator's unfamiliarity with the technical terms and vocabulary of Islamic pottery and art, errors and ambiguities in translation, and ultimately the editor's biased and erroneous explanations can be mentioned.
