از آغـاز نسل اول تلفـن‌هــاي همــراه (G1) بـــه‌طــور تقريبــي هر 10 سال يك‌بــار نسـل جديدي معرفي شده است. با توجه به معرفي G4 و استانداردسازي‌هاي انجام شده سازگار باInternational Mobile Telecom - Advanced] IMT-Advanced] انتظار مي‌رود كه در سال 2020 استاندارهاي مبتني بر G5 ارايه شوند. در اين راستا كشورهاي ژاپن و كره جنوبي ميليون‌ها دلار براي ساخت شبكه‌هاي G5 سرمايه‌گذاري نموده‌اند. در مه 2013، سامسونگ اعلام نمود كه اولين سيستم G5 دنيا را ايجاد نموده است. در آزمايش‌هاي انجام شده به كمك MIMO هشت در هشت، داده با نرخ 1.056 Gbit/s به فاصله‌اي حدود 2 كيلومتر ارسال شده است. هنوز اطلاع زيادي در مورد جزييات و ويژگي‌هاي اين شبكه ارتباطي منتشر نشده است، اما بزرگ‌ترين مزيت آن سرعت 10 تا 1000 برابري شبكه G5 نسبت به شبكه‌هاي G LTE 4 است كه هم‌اكنون مورد استفاده قرار مي‌گيرند. شايد سرعت 10 تا 1000 برابري براي كاربران ايراني كمي ناملموس به‌نظر برسد، از‌اين‌رو خالي از لطف نيست مي‌توان يك فيلم يا يك قسمت از سريال محبوب خود را در كسري از ثانيه دانلود كنيد، هرچند با وجود چنين شبكه‌اي، دانلود محتواي موجود در اينترنت عاقلانه نيست، چراكه اينترنت بهترين مخزن اطلاعات شما است كه مي‌توانيد در هر لحظه‌اي به آن دسترسي داشته باشيد.
