طي سال­هاي اخير آتش­ سوزي در جنگل­هاي ايران بخش وسيعي از اين اكوسيستم‌هاي ارزشمند را نابود كرده است. با توجه به اين‌كه ايران جزء كشورهاي كم‌جنگل جهان محسوب مي‌شود،‌ بررسي پيامدهاي آتش‌سوزي در جنگل‌هاي ايران و شناخت روش‌هاي مقابله با آنها به‌منظور ارائه راهكاري براي كاهش اين آتش‌سوزي‌ها ضروري است. آتش ­سوزي در جنگل‌هاي ايران علاوه بر خسارت­هاي اقتصادي و آلودگي­هاي محيط زيستي، در از بين بردن گونه‌هاي گياهي و جانوري منحصربه‌فرد اين جنگل‌ها، كاهش تنوع زيستي و كاهش ارزش كيفي گونه‌هاي گياهي صنعتي نيز تأثير مهمي داشته است. به‌علاوه آتش‌سوزي‌هاي اخير در جنگل‌هاي ايران باعث افزايش انتشار گازهاي گلخانه‌اي نيز شده است كه خود نقش مهمي در گرمايش اين اكوسيستم‌ها و افزايش وقوع آتش‌سوزي‌هاي متعاقب در اين جنگل‌ها داشته است. وجود اين پيش‌‌زمينه به‌همراه آتش‌سوزي‌هاي عمدي و غيرعمدي انساني در اين اكوسيستم‌ها، وقوع آتش‌سوزي‌هاي مكرر در جنگل‌هاي ايران را دوچندان كرده است، بنابراين طراحي و توسعه روش‌هاي مقابله مؤثر با اين آتش‌سوزي‌ها به‌صورت پيش‌گيرانه و عملياتي ضروري به‌نظر مي­رسد. در اين زمينه روش‌هاي متعددي از مدل‌سازي خطر وقوع و گسترش آتش‌سوزي با استفاده از فناوري‌هاي سنجش از دور و سيستم اطلاعات جغرافيايي توسعه يافته‌اند كه نقش مؤثري در پيش‌بيني و پيش‌گيري از اين حريق‌ها دارند.

Fire in the forests of Iran has destructed a large part of these valuable ecosystems in the recent years. Iran is one of the low-forest cover countries in the world. Therefore, investigation of fire consequences in the forests of Iran and recognition of opposition methods to fire in these forests is essential to present a solution to decrease these fires. Fire in the forests of Iran has had an important effect in destruction of unique flora and fauna, decrease of biodiversity and decrease of qualitative value of industrial plant species in addition to the economic damages and environmental pollutions. Furthermore, the recent fires in the forests of Iran have also increased the greenhouse gas emissions which it has an important role in the warming of these ecosystems and increasing of subsequent fires occurrence in these forests. This pre-background along with human-caused intentional and nonintentional fires in these ecosystems has increased the continuous fires occurrence in the forests of Iran. Thus, development and designing of the effective opposition methods to these fires as preventing and operating methods is essential. Many different methods of fire occurrence and spread modeling have been developed using RS and GIS technologies which seems these methods have the effective role in predicting and preventing of these fires of forests.
