جنگ جهاني اول اگرچه نتيجة تضاد منافع قدرت‌هاي بزرگ غربي بود اما دامنة آن محدود به غرب نماند و كشورهاي شرقي بويژه ايران را نيز درگير كرد. هرچند مناطق شمالغرب و غرب ايران صحنه اصلي مداخلات اشغالگران بود اما شمال شرق و شرق كشور نيز از آن مصون نماند. طبيعتاً اولين نتيجة اشغال ايران بروز و تشديد ناامني در كشور بود. پژوهش حاضر به روش كتابخانه‌اي، با تكيه بر اسناد معتبر و با رويكردي توصيفي تحليلي در تلاش است وضعيت اجتماعي-فرهنگي خراسان بويژه شهر مشهد را در سال‌هاي جنگ جهاني اول بررسي نمايد. نتايج پژوهش نشان مي‌دهد كه اگرچه امنيت و آسايش مردم خراسان از سوي اشغالگران، اشرار و حتي ادارة عدليه پايمال شده بود، اما در همان حال رشد و نشر فرهنگ و معارف نه تنها بطور كامل متوقف نشد، بلكه راه خود مي‌پيمود و از حركت باز نايستاده بود.

Although World War I was the result of a conflict of interest between the great powers of the West, its scope was not limited to the West and it also involved Eastern countries, especially Iran. Although the northwestern and western regions of Iran were the main scene of the occupiers' interventions, the northeast and east of the country were not immune. Naturally, the first result of the occupation of Iran was the emergence and intensification of insecurity in the country.The present study, using the library method, relying on valid documents and with a descriptive-analytical approach, is trying to examine the socio-cultural situation of Khorasan, especially the city of Mashhad during the First World War.
