چكيده فارسي :
اين مقاله به مسايل مناقشه آميز در باب تعليم آزادي فردي و شهروندي دموكراتيك در شرايط چندفرهنگي معاصر مي پردازد. در اين نوشته پيشنهاد شده است كه آموزش كودكان براي برابري مدني يك هدف بلندهمت براي هر دموكراسي است نه فقط براي يك [كشور و يك] دموكراسي كه بتواند آن را يكبار براي هميشه محقق سازد. اين مقاله شواهدي بر اين ادعا فراهم مي كند كه شرايط چندفرهنگي مي تواند هدف واقعي آموزش برابري مدني به كودكان را با چالش مواجه كند؛ همچنين، توضيح مي دهد كه دموكراسي ها به طور مختلفي چندفرهنگي هستند و گروه هاي مختلف باعث ايجاد گوناگوني در نوع تعليم و پيشرفت به سمت برابري مدني مي شود كه مي تواند به طور واقع گرايانه اي در هر زمان مورد انتظار باشد.
چكيده لاتين :
This article addresses contentious questions concerning individual freedom and democratic citizenship education in the contemporary circumstances of multiculturalism. It suggests that educating children for civic equality is an ambitious aim for any democracy and not one that can ever be realized once and for all. It provides evidence that multicultural conditions can challenge the very aim of educating children for civic equality. It explains that democracies are variously multicultural and the varieties of groups make a difference in the kind of education and the progress toward civic equality that can realistically be expected at any time.
