The Importation of Tobacco from the West to India and Iran and the Rise of Medical Debates About it A Review of the Treatise on the Benefits of Tobacco by Hesamuddin Machini (Early Twelfth Century)

علاوه بر تحقيقات تاريخي و ادبي محققان پيرامون زمان ورود تنباكو به ايران و شبه قاره هند، از نظر طبي نيز درباره آن، مباحثي مطرح شده و آثاري به رشته تحرير درآمده است. يكي از اين آثار، رساله فوايد تنباكو از حسام الدين ماچيني است كه در دوره صفويه نوشته شده و دست كم سه نسخه از آن بر جاي مانده است. نويسنده در نوشتار پيش رو، مروري بر رساله مذكور دارد. وي در راستاي اين هدف، نخست كلياتي درباره رساله مطرح و نسخه هاي باقي مانده از آن را معرفي مي نمايد. سپس، محتواي رساله را مورد مداقه قرار داده و درنهايت، متن آن را ارائه مي دهد.

In addition to historical and literary research done on the time of the importation of tobacco to Iran and the Indian subcontinent, there have also been discussions about it from a medical point of view, and some works have been written on this subject. One of these works is the treatise on the benefits of tobacco by Hesamuddin Machini, which was written during the Safavid period and at least three manuscripts of it are available. In the following article, the author has an overview of the mentioned treatise. In line with this goal, he first introduces generalities about the treatise and the remaining manuscripts of it. Then, it examines the content of the dissertation and finally, presents its text.
