بررسي روانشناسانه آثار ادبي در داستان‌ها و روايت‌هاي گوناگون، يكي از مهم‌ترين و عميق‌ترين شيوه‌هاي شناخت متن است. بهره گيري از اصول و مباني روانشناختي در تحليل شخصيّت قهرمانان داستان‌ها، يكي از مهم‌ترين تعامل ادبيات و روانشناسي است. تاريخ بيهقي، يكي از مهم‌ترين آثار ادبي زبان فارسي است كه به دليل تعدّد داستان‌ها، وقايع تاريخي و تنوع در شخصيّت قهرمانان و خلق و خوي آنان، مي‌تواند بر اساس تحليل روانشناسانه مورد ارزيابي قرار گيرد. در راه شناخت شخصيّت‌هاي داستاني تاريخ بيهقي‌، روش‌هاي مختلفي در روانشناسي مطرح مي‌شود كه در اصل براي شناخت واقعي انسان است. مدل روانشناختي معتبري كه به نام "تيپ‌ شخصيّت" يا "تيپ شخصيّتي" مطرح مي‌شود يكي از ابزارهاي مفيد براي شناخت سريع انسان است. پل. دي. تيگر و باربارا بارون. تيگر بر اساس شاخص مايرز بريگز، شناخت آسان خصايص اصلي شخصيّت و چگونگي برقراري ارتباط موثرتر و گرفتن نتايج سريع‌تر را مطرح مي‌كنند. در اين پژوهش شخصيّت‌هاي مُشرف (جاسوس) و شخصيّت‌هاي كه رازداري را به پرده‌دري ترجيح مي-دهند، بر اساس ابعاد شانزده‌گانه تيپ‌شناسي مايرز بريگز مورد ارزيابي قرار مي‌گيرند. با توجّه به نتايج حاصل از اين پژوهش، گرايش شخصيّت‌هاي مُشرف تاريخ بيهقي به تيپ برون‌گراي شهودي متفكّر دريافت‌گر (ب‌ش‌م‌ر) و تيپ برون‌گراي حسي متفكّر قضاوت‌گر (ب‌ح‌م‌ق) بيشتر از ساير تيپ‌ها است.
