The combined heat and power (CHP) or cogeneration plants installed by Solar Turbines at the facilities of companies the world over are helping to reduce the very high share of production costs attributable to energy use. At the same time, more and more companies that are already aware of the benefits of cogeneration are now asking themselves what more they can do to cut costs. The most frequently asked question concerns whether and how it is possible to integrate heat and power production following production loads, tariff variations, incentives and load sharing opportunities in order to maximise cost savings and enhance competitiveness. Solar Turbines responded by developing the Integrated Energy Optimization System (IEO), designed to optimise management of the cogeneration plant. As it is integrated with the utility and production systems and monitors the external and the
internal parameters, this solution is able to identify all energy cost saving opportunities.
