هر واژه در كتاب لغت داراي معنا يا معاني خاصي است ولي وقتي همين واژه در متن قرار مي‌گيرد معناي دقيق خود را پيدا مي‌كند و از اين‌رو بهترين راه براي تعيين معناي واژه، توجه به قرائن كلام و بافت و سياق است. اين پژوهش با روش تحليلي ـ توصيفي در صدد ارائۀ تعريف دقيقي براي سياق و بيان آثار كاركردي آن در تبيين واژگان قرآن بوده و به نتائج زير نائل شده است: سياق، هرگونه دليل ديگري است كه در فضاي الفاظ و عباراتي كه مي‌خواهيم ‌آن‌ها را بفهميم قرار دارد و به لفظي و معنوي ، پيوسته و گسسته تقسيم مي‌شود و داراي اين كاركردهاست: عدم امكان معناي الفاظ بدون كمك سياق؛ ارائة معناي واژه دقيقتر از معناي ارائه شده توسط اهل لغت؛ تعيين معناي لفظ مشترك در آيه ؛ تبيين فرق يا فروق بين الفاظِ به ظاهر مترادف؛ تشخيص حذف و محذوف در آيات؛ تعيين نقش دستوري واژه در متن؛ تعيين مصداق واژه‌هاي مشترك معنوي؛ تعيين وجه واژه هاي داراي وجوه متعدد؛ ترجيح و تعيين يكي از قرائت‌هاي مرتبط با واژه‌ها؛ قبول يا رد روايت‌هاي تفسيري مرتبط با معناي واژه‌ها ، تعيين معناي واژگان اضداد در آيات ؛ كشف اعجاز لغوي قرآن؛ تعيين معناي صحيح واژه‌هاي ناظر بر احكام فقهي.
