هنر مدرن و هنر معاصر مفهوم بازنمايي را، كه حدود دو­ هزارسال بر تاريخ فلسفة هنر سيطره داشت، مورد نقد قرار داده است. بر اين اساس ديگر تلقي كلاسيك از بازنمايي قادر به تحليل نمونه­هاي هنري جديدي نبود كه از هنگام شكل­گيري هنر مدرن پديد آمده ­بودند. آرتور دانتو يكي از فيلسوفان هنر قرن بيستم است كه به ويژه با توجه به هنر معاصر به ارزيابي مجدد نظرية "بازنمايي" پرداخته است. دانتو معتقد است كه هنر امروز، شاهد ظهور ابژه­هاي واقعي[1] در آثار هنري است و ديگر هنر صرفاً بازنمايي واقعيت نيست بلكه ابژه­هاي واقعي خود تبديل به اثر هنري شده­اند. وي آثار هنري را بيان­هاي نماديني مي­داند كه خود را تجسم مي­بخشند. مقاله حاضر تلاشي است براي تبيين دريافت دانتو از مفهوم هنر به منزلة بازنمايي كه با تكيه بر كتاب استحالة شئ معمولي (1981)، فراسوي جعبه هاي بريلو (1992) و آنچه هنر است (2013) صورت گرفته است. در اين مقاله به تحليل چرايي طرح اين نظريه از سوي دانتو اشاره مي­شود كه او چگونه تفسيري ديگر از مفهوم بازنمايي را طرح كرد و آن مفهوم را متمايز از تلقي كلاسيك آن توضيح داد. اهميت تلقي دانتو در اين خصوص بررسي نمونه­هاي هنر معاصر براساس تفسير تازه­اي است كه از مفهوم بازنمايي در هنر طرح مي­كند. همچنين در اين مقاله به مطالعه موردي در خصوص هنرمند معاصرجف كونز نيز اشاره شده است.

The development of modern art and contemporary art criticized the concept of representation, which dominated art philosophy for nearly two millennia. Accordingly, the classical conception of representation was no longer able to analyze the new artifacts that emerged from the formation of modern art. Arthur Danto is among the twentieth-century art philosophers reevaluated "representation" taking into account contemporary art. The current paper aims at explaining Danto's conception of art as a representation based on the book “The Transfiguration of the Commonplace”. Danto believes that in today's art we see the emergence of real objects in artworks and other art is no longer merely the representation of reality but the real objects themselves that have become artworks. He views artworks as symbolic expressions that embody themselves. Thus, the current paper explains why Danto proposed this theory and stating how he devised another interpretation of the concept of representation and explained that concept distinct from its classical conception. The importance of Danto's view in this regard is to examine contemporary art samples based on a new interpretation of the concept.
