In many narratives of Islamic Scholars and also in old medical texts, thereuapeutic effects of cameVs milk and urine on asthma & dyspnea have been pointed out As a possible mechanism of bronchodilating effect is its anticholinergic property, we have studied the cameVs milk & urine effects on guinea pig isolated trachea. By forming logarithmic scales of guinea pig isolated tracheaʹs respone to increasing concentrations of methacoline & calculation of EC50 (a concentration of methacoline that^ causes 50% of the maximum contraction) the results were compared ,in three conditions: in the presence of milk or urine and normal saline (once in the presence of 5ml of each solution, then in the presecene of 10 ml of each, both without tissue incubation), and finally in the presence of 10 ml solution and tissue incubation with propranolol). The methacholine log concentration-response curves obtained in the presence of cameVs milk in all three sets of experiments showed small right-ward shift, but in experiments with 10 ml (both incubated and non-incubated) there were clear right-ward shifts in methacholine-response curves in comparison with the curves obtained in the presence of saline. The methacholine EC50 obtained in the presence of 10 ml cameVs urine (in non-incubated experiments) was significantly higher than that of saline. The results of this study showed that cameVs milk has no or very weak anticholinergic effect, and this effect perhaps has a little contribution to bronchodilatory properties of cameVs milk. However, cameVs urine showed anticholinergic effects, which may contribute to its bronchodilatory property.
