در متن ادب فارسي، بويژه متون تاريخي، از سرگذشت اسكندراستفاده گسترده اي شده است اسكندر يكي از شخصيت هاي تاريخ ساز در پهنۀ زمان بوده است؛ در ادبيات فارسي و عربي شخصييت تاريخي او با افسانه هايي آميخته است كه از او شخصيتي داستاني و افسانه اي پديدآورده است. در بسياري از متوننظم و نثر به داستان زندگي وي پرداخته شده است. شخصيت اسكندر در حماسه ملي ما آميخته با صفات نيك و بد است. اگر بخواهيم موضوع اسكندر را با نگاهي علمي ارزيابي كنيم؛ بايد ببينيم كه كردار وي چگونه بوده كه در ثنا و ستايش وي تا اين حد اغراق و مبالغه شده است. در بعضي منابع شخصيتي نيك، درست و پيامبروار و منابع ديگر شخصيت گجستك از اسكندر معرفي شده است. در اين مقاله سعي شده است با بررسي شخصيت اسكندر در دو اثر تاريخي اخبار الطوال و شاهنامه به تأثيرپذيري اسكندر از فرهنگ و انديشه پارسي و موفقيت وي در كشورگشايي و ايجاد فرهنگ ها بپردازد. روش تحقيق در اين پژوهش بر اساس روش تطبيقي بين دو منبع فوق خواهد بود. فرضيه اين مقاله بينش دينوري و فردوسي در دو منبع بر اساس تفاوت ها و شباهت هاي ياد شده دربارۀ اسكندر نيز بررسي مي شود.
