مكتب سوررئاليسم را واكنشي به نوميدي انسان معاصر از عقل‌گرايي و ماده‌گرايي محض عصر مدرن دانسته‌اند و گريز به جهان ناخودآگاه را، بهترين راه‌حل او در برابر رنج اين سال‌ها به شمار مي‌آورند. از سوي ديگر، عرفان اسلامي نيز نوعي مكتب فكري و معرفتي است كه در مسير كشف حقيقت، بيش از هر چيز بر ذوق و اشراق اعتماد مي‌ورزد و ترسيم رابطۀ خالق و مخلوق را از رهگذر عبور از عين به ذهن و از جهان محسوس به ذهنيت مطلق ممكن مي‌داند. نتايج اين پژوهش نشان مي‌دهد كه كتاب منطق‌الطير به عنوان يكي از نمايندگان اين روش فكري، در خرده‌روايت‌هايش داراي نشانه‌ها و مؤلفه‌هايي از سوررئاليسم است كه تأييد‌كنندۀ پيوند و همبستگي دو مكتب فكري سوررئاليسم و عرفان، حداقل در ساختار صوري آن‌هاست، همچنين از مؤلفه‌هايي چون: لامكاني و لازماني، عشق، آزادي، رؤيا و تخيل، امر شگفت و جادو، جنون و ديوانگي و ... مي‌توان به عنوان ديگر نشانه‌هاي اشتراك ساختاري و معنايي اين اثر عرفاني با آثار سوررئاليستي مدرن، ياد كرد.
