عنوان جهاد كبير در آيه «فَلاتُطِعِ الكافِرينَ وَجاهِدهُم بِهِ جِهاداً كَبيراً»(فرقان:52) آمده است. باتوجه‌به مكي‌بودن سوره فرقان و سياق آيات مكي، جهاد كبير، بسته جامعي از راه كارهاي غيرنظامي مقابله با دشمنان است كه جامعه اسلامي را در برابر هرگونه تهاجم و تسلط غيرنظامي، مصون مي‌سازد. رسيدن به معناي «الكافِرينَ» در آيه جهاد كبير، مسئله اصلي اين پژوهش بوده؛ چرا كه اين آيه فرمان به عدم پيروي از آنان در مسير انجام جهاد كبير نموده است. هدف از انجام اين پژوهش، ضمن بررسي نظرات مفسران فريقين در تبيين مفهوم كافر، ارائه نتايج تحقيق به آحاد جامعه اسلامي و مسئولان آن است تا در تصميم‌سازي‌ها وتصميم‌گيري‌ها مبناي عمل قرار گيرد. طبق يافته‌هاي اين پژوهش، «كافر» در آيه جهاد كبير به معناي كلي «دشمن فعال عليه منافع جامعه اسلامي» و شامل افراد و گروه‌هاي ذيل مي‌شوند: مشركان(منكران)، كافران اهل كتاب(ذمي و غيرذمي)، معاندان، منافقان، كافران مرتد، زنادقه(كافران جحود) و كافران حربي(منكران). در نتيجه مسئولان جامعه اسلامي موظف‌اند صرفاً با تكيه بر داشته‌هاي جامعه ديني خود با رويكرد جهاد كبير اقدام به برنامه‌ريزي و انجام امور نمايند. روشي كه در اين تحقيق براي رسيدن به مطلوب از آن استفاده شده، روش تحقيق موضوعي درون‌قرآني و مطالعه تطبيقي ميان تفاسير شيعي و اهل تسنن است.

Reaching the meaning of "infidels" in the verse of the Great Jihad has been the main issue of this research; Because this verse commands not to follow them in the path of great jihad. The purpose of this study, while examining the views of the commentators of the two sects in explaining the concept of infidel, is to present the results of the research to the officials of the Islamic community. According to the findings of this study, "infidel" in the verse of the Great Jihad in the general sense of "active enemy against the interests of the Islamic society" and includes the following individuals and groups: The polytheists, the infidels of the Book, the opponents, the hypocrites, the apostates, the heretics and the military infidels. As a result, the officials of the Islamic society are obliged to plan and carry out affairs only by relying on the resources of their religious community with the approach of the Great Jihad. The method used in this research to achieve the desired is the method of intra-Quranic thematic research and comparative study between Shiite and Sunni interpretations.
