خواستن توانستن نيست؛ تأملي درباب بهانه‌جويي مرغان منطق‌الطير

Where there is a Will, there is not a Way: A Contemplation on Excuses of Birds in the Conference of the Birds (Mantegh Al-Tair)

طلب (خواستن) نخستين مرحله (مقام) در سير و سلوك (سفر مرغان به سوي سيمرغ) است. در منطق‌الطير مسائل مربوط‌ به اين مقام بسيار مفصل‌تر از مقامات ديگر آمده است. در اين مرحله مرغان به ضرورت يافتن سيمرغ و رسيدن به او اقرار و اصرار دارند. پرسش‌هاي اصلي مقاله عبارت است از: چرا مرغان با وجود اين اقرار، در مقام عمل بهانه مي‌آورند و به سفر تن نمي‌دهند؟ چرا با اينكه زيستن بدون سيمرغ را موجب بي‌نظمي (بي‌معنايي) در زندگي مي‌دانند و گويي از وضع موجود خود ناراضي‌اند، هنگام آغاز سفر بهانه مي‌آورند و از وضع موجود ابراز رضايت دارند و به داشتة خود بسنده مي‌كنند؟ با توجه به اينكه مرغان نمايندۀ سالكان جوياي حق و حقيقت (مردم مشتاق رسيدن به آمال و آرمان‌هاي خويش) هستند، اين بهانه‌ها چه دلايل و انگيزه‌هايي مي‌تواند داشته باشد؟ براي پاسخ به اين پرسش‌ها به مباني نظري مربوط‌ به نسبت علم و عمل و خواستن و توانستن (داشتن يا رسيدن) اشاره مي‌شود؛ سپس به نقش عواطف و به‌ويژه همّت (به معني بلندنظري، عزم و ارادۀ جدي و توجه كامل قلبي به هدف) در تحقق خواسته‌ها پرداخته خواهد شد. با توجه به متن داستان، مسائلي مانند نقصان آگاهي، ترس، خودخواهي و انواع دلبستگي، از موانع رسيدن به مقصد نهايي (سيمرغ) مطرح شده است؛ اما در نظر عطار، نقصان در همّت (بي‌همّتي) كه با تكرار كلمۀ «بس» بر زبان مرغان بيان مي‌شود و نقش موتيف دارد، در اين مرحله باعث اصلي عذر و بهانة مرغان بوده است.

The will is the first step in a mystical journey (here a journey of birds toward Simorgh, which is comparable with Phoenix). In the first step, birds are aware of the importance of finding Simorgh and having a king, but this primary awareness is in conflict with their current situations; thus, they face mental challenges and doubts. They are in a decision-making dilemma between what they have and what they want to have (Simorgh) which finally led to excuses, doubt, and inaction. The two main questions of this study are: 1) why do the birds reject to take a trip despite knowing the necessity of finding Simorgh? 2) Why is life without Simorgh meaningless? Theoretical foundations explained here mean the role of wisdom in acts and the relation of thought and emotion in the fulfillment of desires. Attar intended to illustrate that asking (quest) is a necessary condition, not a sufficient condition. Where there is a will, there is not a way necessarily and ambition has a key role in this regard. Some obstacles of the journey expressed include thought deficiency fear, avoiding risks, interests, pleasures, and habits. What is missing link in this stage is ambition. Lack of ambition is the main reason for the excuses of birds which is shown in birds’ speech with the recurring “enough” word as the motif.
