A Critique of the Zahabi’s Approach in Book of the Scale of Moderation (Mizan al-I’tidal)

كتاب ميزان‌الاعتدال نوشتۀ شمس‌الدين ذهبي يكي از مهم‌‌ترين جوامع رجالي اهل‌سنّت در خصوص راويان ضعيف است. تحقيق حاضر با روش توصيفي تحليلي تدوين شده و در پي بررسي پايندي ذهبي در اين كتاب به معيارهاي جرح و تعديل است. به‌نظر مي‌‌رسد او برخلاف آنچه در مقدمه كتاب ادعا نموده، جانب انصاف را رعايت نكرده و نسبت به راوياني خاص، رفتاري دوگانه داشته است. او در سنجش اعتبار راويان، گرايش‌‌هاي مذهبي را دخالت داده و نسبت با راويان شيعي رفتاري سخت‌‌گيرانه داشته، اما دربارۀ راويان اهل‌سنّت روش تساهل را به‌كار گرفته است.

The book Scale of Moderation (Mizan al-I’tidal) written by Shams al-Din Zahabi is one of the most important Sunni rijali main sources regarding the weak narrators. The present study has been compiled with a descriptive-analytical method and seeks to examine the Zahabi’s commitment in this book to the criteria of critique and judgment (jarh wa ta’dil). Contrary to his claim in the introduction to the book, he does not seem to be fair and has a double standard towards certain narrators. In assessing the credibility of the narrators, he has involved religious tendencies and treated the Shiite narrators harshly, but he has used the method of tolerance towards the Sunni narrators.
