Synthetic plastics have become the major materials for everyday life. These polymers, such as polystyrene, polypropylene and polyethylene are easily produced and they are cheap, therefore, are widely used in packaging, agriculture, food packaging items. This situation has lead to the growing problem of pollution. Therefore, attempts have been made to solve plastics waste problem by imparting biodegradability into polymers. Polyethylene is one of the most dominant packaging materials. There have been many attempts to make polyethylene becoming easily degradable. One method is the use of starch as natural filler in polyethylene. In this research corn starch is used to study the degradation of LDPE. For this purpose different percentages of starch were added to polyethylene. Thermal and mechanical tests are affected by the amount of starch on polyethylene. The SEM analysis and UV radiation are also studied. The results show that with the incremental increase of the amount of starch in compounds, the tensile strength, elongation-at-break decrease and modulus increases. The exposure of samples to UV radiation causes the breaking stress, elongation-at-break and breaking strain to decrease. By incremental increase in the time length of radiation and the amount of starch, there are deleterious effects observed in the properties.
