Can Ans and And be multiple alleles for the locus D in Pea (Pisum sativum L.)

The pattern of anthocyanin pigmentation in different organs of pea is known to be controlled by several genes. The genes Ans and And causing anthocyanin pigmentation in seedling and anthocyanin dots on upper surface of leaflets, respectively, have already been mapped on D segment of linkage group l of pea. Lines possessing mentioned genes were involved in 5 crosses with multi-marker lines having linkage group 1 markers. Linkage analysis of F2 populations obtained from these crosses revealed that these two genes belong to tbe linkage group L and no recombination was occurred between these two genes and the gene D. Lt is suggested that the genes Ans and And are either different alleles of the locus D, or the presence of tight linkage between these two genes and the gene D bas bampered incidence of recombination. This possibility also remains under consideration that two traits can be related to the pleiotropic effect of the gene D.
