In order to study the effects of different methods of planting and different plant densities on wheat yield (Triticum astivum L.) and its components ,fajan variety,a split plot factorial design with four replications per treatment was conducted during the 2001 2002 growing season at the Reseanch Field of Agricultural College of Dorgan University. Planting methods included of 3 levels of planting: 45 cm bed width (b 1), 20 cm bed width, (b2), Flat planting (b3), all of which with rows 15 cm apart. These three systems were used with three levels of seeding rates, (200,370 and 500 seeds/m2 so called low, average and high respectively). Results indicated that plant densities had no significant effect on grain yield. the Effect of different methods of planting had significant effect on seed yield . The highest yield was obtained with planting method of bl which was %13/43 and %11/3 higher than b2 and b3 respectivly. Planting densities had significant effect on leaf area index prior to flag leaf appearance. Planting methods had significant effect on LAI. Planting methods of bl had higher LAI as campared with b2 and b3. The highest LAI was 4/44 and obtained from planting method of bl at heading stage. Effect of planting methods on number of spikes per squar emeter and number of grains per spike and 1000-seed weight was significantly different. The highest number of spike per squar meter (33O/8) and number of grains per spike (36/25) and 1000-seed weight (41/57g) were obtained from b3 ,bland b1 treatments, respcctivly. Interaction of planting method and plant density on number of grains per spike was significant in some treatments. The highest number of grains per spike (43/75) and the lowest (27) were obtained from blcl and b3c3 treatments respectively. The highest harvest index (56.21) was obtained from planting method of bl.
