Situation of the organization of sound musical resources existing in the musical archives of Tehran

The purpose of the present study is to explore sound musical resourcesʹ organization (cataloging, indexing and classification) in the specialized and governmental musical archives in Tehran. Survey method is used in this study and a questionnaire has been the study tool. The population of investigation includes all of the specialized and governmental musical archives in Tehran (10 archives) belonging to Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) and Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance. Some of the results of this study areas follows: -30% of archives have not cataloged their resources. -60% of them have cataloged 25-75% of their resources based on nglo-American cataloging rules2 (with some changes). -All of studied archives have shelved their resources based on registration system (Roseau). None of them have classified their resources according to the subject. -90% of archives have not indexed their resources because of the lack of specialist manpower, resource indexing facilities and equipments such as computers. -90% of these archives do not have any documented pattern to organize the musical resources.
