Web usability evaluation of Iranian industrial university Websites

This study deals with knowing of metrics of Web usability as well as evaluating the industrial university Websites in Iran. However, the design of university Websites should be based on functions that support universityʹs major three-fold aims (educational, research and public services), but there are some problems and drawbacks in this connection, particularly in the theoretical approaches of it. So, the aim of this study is to identify the elements that are important in the design of university Websites at one hand, and help users to select good Websites and help the specialists and website designers to design and implement high quality websites for the university, on the other hand. A checklist was developed based on literature review to help the researcher to measure the extent to which the six chosen Websites had the desired elements and features. Findings showed that Iranian industrial university Websites are at the medium level of web usability, and more than 50 percent of the standards have not been considered. At the end, some recommendations have been suggested to improve the present situation of the university Websites in Iran.
