Information retrieval behavior of the students of Master of Library and Information Sciences

This study is using survey research method to consider information retrieval behavior of the master of library and information sciences students of the state universities of Tehran. Findings show that 41.5 percent of the research population mentioned that their aims and motives are updating their professional information; and textbooks, professional serials, and data-banks are the most used informative sources each with the rate of 12.86 percent. "Consultation with instructors" is the most used method for information retrieval of this population(19.03 percent) and "library catalog" is the most popular method of access to the needed information(26.27 percent). The most important obstacles and problems in access to the needed information are "lack of needed resources in library collection" and "out-of-date sources presented in the collection" (each one with the range of 20.34 percent). 63.6 percent of the research population mentioned that they use computer networks and/or CDs. 59.1 percent of the research population do not use Iranian professional serials on library and information sciences desirably; this range for foreign serials is 90.9 percent.
