New Challenges for Knowledge Organization in 21rt Century: An Overview on Knowledge of Cataloging in Iran

Having historical and analytic approach, the present paper describes challenges for knowledge organization. It discuses historical status of cataloging and classification in knowledge organization and librariansʹ ever-lasting mission to organize knowledge sources. The article also focuses on new challenges in 21rt century that catalogers are facing with in order to organize library resource, especially electronic and Internet sources. Revising cataloging rules and standards for description of electronic sources, finding methods for cataloging Internet sources, confronting ever-increasing Internet sources, complication of an international standard for meta tags and indefinite future of cataloging and classification education in LIS are main issues discuse in the article.
